FBD dryers

Drying for greater speed, control, and consistency

FBD dryers

Models: FBD 307, FBD 410, FBD 512, FBD 616

Oliver Fluidized Bed Dryers for seeds prevent product clumping, simplify cleanup and improve the finished appearance of seed coatings and treatments. And all while cutting dry time! This is a revolutionary seed dryer solution to the frustrations of clumping and bridging treated seeds and edibles. The FBD uses a combination of air in motion through a vibrating, tilted table. Seed flow is converted to a “fluidized” suspension, making gentle, uniform drying possible for coated, treated, or washed seeds.

Key features:

  • Removes up to 800 pounds (363 kg) of water per hour

  • Multiple heating fuel options

  • Multiple presets and preloaded recipes

  • Decks are designed and built to product specifications with custom overcover and undercover screens.

  • Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) for easy adjustment of fan speed

  • Fluidization prevents the erosion of treated seed

How do Oliver Manufacturing dryers work?

Oliver Manufacturing fluidized bed dryers use controlled airflow, deck vibration, and deck angle to lift wet product into a gently suspended, fluid-like state. As the material moves across the deck, air passes evenly around each particle, evaporating moisture while the vibration helps break apart clumps and keeps the product moving toward discharge.

Operators adjust airflow, deck speed, and deck angle to control drying time and product movement. The result is faster, more uniform drying with less clumping, improved flowability, and gentler handling of coated, treated, or washed seeds and other products. The automated DVX series manages these settings through a touchscreen and programmable controls, while standard FBD models use manual controls.

Diagram showing how Oliver fluidized bed dryers use airflow, vibration, and deck movement to dry seed uniformly and reduce clumping.

In the fluidized bed drying process, (a) wet product enters the vibrating deck, (b) upward airflow lifts and suspends the particles while moisture evaporates, and (c) deck motion and angle move the dried, free-flowing product toward discharge.
